ANATOMY OF A BAD SCAM ARTIST
Recently, June, 2007, I was able to acquire a vintage
Gibson acoustic guitar. The guitar, a 1951 Gibson LG-2,
was listed on June 5th, 2007. By the end of the day, my

Then, I received this official looking document,
except for one thing, pay pal does not require you
to ship first, then get paid for your item. If you
save this, and use window fax and photo viewer, you
can see the bad wording of what is otherwise an
official looking document. This is my forward e-mail
to spoof@paypal.com. I have covered my e-mail
address.
Here is photo of Lagos, Nigeria, Africa,
where many scams are attempted.
I have been scammed in the past, most attempts
are so transparent, it is obvious. Like the old
Oklahoma bankroll routine I experienced in LA @
the train depot some 25 years ago. I told them
how bad their Their act was, and get a job. I have
traveled to many 3rd world countries, and
experienced the same type of deal. Scam artists
all try the same approach.

1. Promise good wishes, and god bless, but try to
get you to act impulsively, and immediately.

2. Try to take command of the situation,
Stop and think, this person tried to make me
believe I had sold my item. When in fact, the con
man wanted me to act impulsively, because con man
was in such a rush to take care of HIS/HER needs.
Never, act outside of the parameters that are set
by paypal or ebay.
I managed to convince ebay to drop the final value fee,
and re-listing fee I was charged after con-man "bought
it now". Today, June 13th, I recieved this message....

I just saw this item of yours and I remember seeing the same item two
days ago listed by another person, take a look:

http://85.36.108.50/ebay/?signin.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll

So, according to this person, the con-man stole the
pictures and ad, and trying it somewhere else, WITH MY
ITEM ! I tried to go there, but it had been recorded as
a phishing scam already.

My advice, never deal with Nigeria, or anyone trying to
circuvent the rules of ebay, with hard luck stories, on
how they need to do their deal. I know this is common
sense, but I was amazed to see that paypal document in
my inbox. I will continue to try to find information on
the address given to mail the guitar to.
